The ninth-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team opened the 2006 season with an impressive effort on Friday night at the Cancun Classic. The Cardinal tallied a team score of 194.850, just behind the winning effort of top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Georgia. The Bulldogs chalked up a score of 195.650. Unfortunately Stephanie has to sat out the competition due to injury. She hyper-extended her knee a few weeks ago in training while doing a whip 2 1/2 on floor, fractured her tibia and tore her miniscus. Fortunately the injury doesn't require surgery, but obviously Stephanie is very dissapointed. She is very exchited about the 2006 NCAA season and will be back for the end of it! GO CARDINALS!

How hard was the transition from elite to college gymnastics?
Tt was a little hard at first, getting used to working out less and doing school a lot more, but it's definitely been a nice change.
Do you find it hard to compete now that you can only train a certain number of hours each week?
I find it easier to compete now since we compete so often.
How difficult is it to be away from your family while you attend Stanford?
Of course I miss them sometimes, but it is also fun to be in college and taking care of yourself.
What's the best thing about living in California?
Hmmm...I dunno, the weather? Nah, being at stanford, pretty much the best school in the country and meeting all the awesome people here. It's nice to meet people outside of just the gymnastics world.
How do you spend your free time and what do you enjoy the most when you are away from the gymnastics?
I enjoy hanging out with my friends and staying up late.
Have you decided your major yet? What do you want to do after you graduate?
I think that I will do either economics or some kind of engineering, but I'm not sure yet. As for after school, I have no idea so far.
What are some of your ultimate goals you would like to reach to fulfill your collegiate career?
I want to compete all around next year, our team to win NCAA's, and me to become an all-american.

Welcome to the new look Stephanie-Gentry.com! As promised we have been hard at work redesigning Stephanie's website with a completely new look as she prepares to move into the next phase of her gymnastics career as a freshman on the Stanford University Gymnastics Team. Many sections of the website have been updated with new information. Be sure to take a look around and don't forget to leave a message for Stephanie in her guestbook. She visits the book regularly and loves to hear from visitors to her website.
Since the last update on her website Stephanie has been extremely busy competing in her last elite gymnastics meet, graduating from High School, watching her brother Tim compete at the USA Championships, taking a well earned Summer vacation and basically preparing herself for the challenges of life at college and NCAA gymnastics. She recently sat down to answer a few questions for the website. Check out her answers below:

How was your graduation ceremony?
My graduation ceremony was awesome. Since I did my school online, my mom found a ceremony for home school students in the North Texas area for me to go to. Megan Dowlen graduated with me because she and I do the same school. It was a pretty unique ceremony in that my parents got to give me my diploma, and each graduate had like a table for pictures and awards and stuff to tell about their life.
Do you have any special plans for the summer?
I will be going to Woodward East for like the whole month of July, and then I'm going to a family reunion for my mom's side in Kentucky. I got to go to Championships and watch my brother compete. He did awesome, and it was a lot of fun getting to see everyone.
Do you think your life will change when you go to Standford?
My life will definitely change when I go to Stanford, and I am looking forward to it.
What are you going to study at Stanford?
I'm not sure as to what my major will be yet, but I'm thinking about marine biology, physical therapy, or optometry. Who knows, though, it could turn out to be something completely different!
How much your routines will change for college or will you try to keep them basically the same?
Vault will stay the same.
Bars will change a little, I want to try a couple of things, like maybe healy again, and I've also been working on Jaegers.
Will you be roommates with one of the gymnast that will be starting with you?
No, my roommate will not be another gymnast for sure. Stanford has a special housing committee or something that picks our roommates for us based on surveys and stuff that we have to fill out. They do this because they want us to branch out and not be confined to just one group of people. I guess I would call it getting the whole college-life experience.
What are you looking forward to most about NCAA gymnastics and competitions?
The thing that I am looking forward to the most about NCAA gymnastics is the team spirit. In college, it is not just about one person, it is about the whole team, so everyone counts and plays their own special part to help out the team.
